England and Tottenham Hotspur defender, Kyle Walker will become the most expensive defender in the world when he joins Manchester City on Friday in a deal worth over £50million.

According to a report by Dailymail UK, the fee, which is also a record for an English player, was brokered on Thursday with City offering Tottenham an initial £45million plus £5m in add ons and further bonuses due based on performances.

Walker's former club, Sheffield United are also due around £5m from a sell-on clause which gave them ten percent of any profit on his transfer.

City and Tottenham had been £10million apart in their valuation but City accelerated talks after missing out on back-up, Dani Alves who snubbed their advances in favour of joining Paris St Germain.

Pep Guardiola's side had identified Walker as their main target for the right-back position after allowing Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy to leave.

Walker, 27, who will sign a five-year deal, is now expected to go on tour with City on Monday and could line up against Spurs in the International Champions Cup in Nashville, Tennessee on July 29.

He made 39 appearances for Tottenham last season but manager Mauricio Pochettino was happy to let him go following the emergence of Kieran Trippier who has since been handed a five-year contract.
